Campground clubs & memberships are a great way to get discounts on camping and other perks. But before you decide on a membership or club there are some things you need to think about.
1. Read the fine print
Consider buying multiple camping clubs or memberships because each one fills a certain niche or purpose. Think about the way you camp and what you want out of the membership. All memberships will have an area or region they cover and you may have to have multiple memberships to cover your type of camping and area. For example, we belong to Thousand Trails and we love it. They have resorts on the coasts of the US but only a few in the central and none in the upper states so we are also members of Harvest Host & Boondocker's Welcome. This fills in the areas that Thousand Trails miss. We are also Good Sam members for the camping discounts at other campgrounds across America.
You will find the price for memberships will vary widely, some may be worth it for you and some may not be. Some are a one-time membership fee, while others monthly or yearly. Another thing you will need to understand are the contracts you are signing up for. Like price, contracts can be yearlong or month-to-month, be sure you know before you sign the dotted line.
This goes with Price & Contract. Sit down and do the math to see if the use of the membership and the savings you will receive will make the cost of the membership worth the money. The more you use the membership the more value you get from that membership, I know that sounds like a DUH... moment but you might be surprised how many people waste their hard-earned money in this way.
The difference between a club and a camping membership
An RV club is a membership that gives you exclusive access to campgrounds and resorts as well as organized meetups, rallies, and specially organized RV trips. Some clubs cater to certain group types like 55 and older or certain brand-type RVs. These clubs also offer other exclusive benefits like discounts on RV insurance etc. Listed below are the most popular RV Clubs.
A Camping Membership allows RVers to camp at particular campgrounds and/or resorts for free or at a large discount. You will also get discounts on services, RV parts, etc. Listed below are the most popular camping memberships.
